Intel Pyramid visits Markham





This week and next week the Intel Pyramid will be in Markham. It is a good oportunity for P2 children to learn how the computer works, get to kwow it's parts and learn about the computer invention.

P2 Objectives

General IT Skills

  • Manipulate the mouse showing reasonable control and confidence.
  • Log on independently.
  • Log off independently.
  • Minimise and Maximise windows.
  • Open and close applications.
  • Begin to understand what is meant by a server and how it is used to store their work and enables them to work on any computer.
  • Open and save their work from their home directories.
  • Work with two o more applications at the same time

Arts and Graphics

  • Resize pictures using click and drag.
  • Make clear pictures in a drawing programme and demonstrate the ability to use the pencil, paintbrush, spray can and fill tools.
  • Use the square, circle and line tools.
  • Use the text tool to label pictures.
  • Cut/Copy and Paste pictures from the Web and other programmes (Print Artist)
  • Link pages.
  • Add transitions to pages.
  • Use the undo option.
  • Text handling.
  • Type short sentences.
  • Select text using click and drag.
  • Format text. (Font, colour, effects, size)

Internet

  • Be able to send and receive emails.
  • Conduct a simple search on the web using a search engine.

Working in the computer lab


Computer Class Rules

1. Come in quietly and log on with your user name and password.
2. Wash your hands before using the equipment.
3. Always use your assigned computer.
4. Listen and pay attention to the teacher's explanations.
5. Take care of computer equipment.
6. Save your work on your H: drive.
7. Ask your teacher for permission before printing.
8. Focus on your work and don't loose time when you are working on the computer.
9. Log off at the end of your lesson.
10.Make sure everything is in order before you leave the lab.
